Tupelo [May. 25th, 2010|05:40 pm]

I went to the Franklin Park Zoo a couple weekends ago to see the scene and check in on their baby tapir, Tupelo. Sadly, I was too slow in getting down there this year to catch her spots and stripes, but I did get to take in some great local color.

The best bit of conversation I overheard was between a couple, maybe in their late 30s, outside of the giraffe paddock. The woman incredulously demanded to know why God had made the giraffes so tall. Her husband, seemingly not accustomed to difficult questions, suggested meekly that perhaps it was just so someone would eat the leaves from the tops of the trees. She turned to him, fire-eyed, and shot back “well alright, then how do you explain the patypus?”

A couple more on flickr.
